Vermont Info

Vermont officially became the 14th state in 1791; the first state to enter the Union after the original thirteen colonies.  Known for its maple syrup, picturesque wooded areas, and ski resorts, Vermont is a state made for those who love the outdoors.  With a population that is nearly the smallest in America, second only to Wyoming, it is a small and quiet state, attracting those with similar tastes.

Residents are employed with everyday jobs; teachers, medical assistants, roofers, computer engineers, and so on.  One of the largest companies in the state is IBM, employing nearly 7,000 local residents.  Many of the residents are also employed at any of the mountain resorts and lodges scattered throughout the state.

Besides skiing, Vermont is probably best known for its beautiful covered bridges.  Once having over 600 covered bridges, the state now only has around 114, which is still more than any other place in the country.  Visitors take scenic tours just to visit these pieces of history.

Other attractions in Vermont include a taste of medieval Europe with the Wilson Castle, the grape-laden fields of the Boyden Valley Winery, a glimpse into history with the Cornish Colony Museum and Vermont History Museum.  Nature enthusiasts enjoy learning about birds of prey at the VINS Nature Center or taking a hike surrounded by the enchanting beauty of the Gifford Woods State Park.  For ice cream lovers everywhere, Vermont houses the one and only Ben and Jerry's Factory Tour.

Accommodations cater to the naturalistic scenery, ranging from bed and breakfasts to charming New England inns.  Tourists may also choose from rustic ski lodges or resorts.  For those that prefer the comfort of a luxury hotel, larger cities like Burlington offer choices between names like Courtyard by Marriot and the Hilton.
