About Tucson

Tucson originally became a city in 1775, though it first became a part of New Mexico. Later in 1860 when the state of Arizona was formed, it officially became a city in that state which is where it remains affiliated today. Known for the heat of its desert lands and the tall, spiked cactus that grow naturally in its unique landscape, this city has one of the hottest climates in the nation.

Visitors who come to this city mostly enjoy getting outdoors and exploring what this landscape has to offer. Kartchner Caverns State Park and the Colossal Cave Mountain Park offer some of the more interesting features with beautiful caverns and mountainside caves for visitors to explore.

For day trips and weekend adventures, Catalina State Park rests just outside the city limits and offers a wide variety of mountain recreation. From hiking and camping to touring horses through equestrian trails, there is something to please everyone here. Many people enjoy simply walking for awhile then setting up for a picnic in some of the most beautiful scenery the state has to offer.

For entertainment, there is the newly restored Fox Theatre, which hosts most of the major events to be found within the city limits. There are also various museums situated throughout the city, including one that introduces visitors to the various animals found naturally in the desert lands.
