Oklahoma Info

Not just the opening song in the hit musical "Oklahoma", the actual state of Oklahoma is a focal point when it comes to our natural gas, oil, and agriculture. The actual name comes from two Native American words meaning, 'red people'; Oklahoma is actually home to 25 distinct Native American languages and dialects.

Oklahoma began as part of French rule in the 1800s before being traded to the United States during the Louisiana Purchase. The state was also a central point in the infamous, Trail of Tears, which was the march that thousands of Native Americans were forced to endure as military soldiers led tribes from across North America to other states, including Oklahoma.

Tulsa, OK has been known as the "oil capitol of the world", from which a major source of the economy fuels the city and the state.

However, because of its location in the mid-west, the state is very big in agriculture. When the Dust Bowl occurred, a large portion of the state suffered through the wide spread drought. The modern day economy of Oklahoma may surprise people - ranked as one of the most business friendly states, Oklahoma is a major producer of oil, aircraft, and food.
