Emergency medical providers should visit the Houston Emergency Center for a wealth of information on emergency codes and to contact state officials. The HEC has invested $50 million into their facility, communication and technology and a recognized leader in the emergency response sector.
Emergency responders know that they should be well prepared to treat heat related symptoms and some severe cases of over-exertion and dehydration due to high humidity and excessive heat in the summer months.

Children have also received a high priority in the cities health plan. It is estimated that 35% of Houston's children live in poverty. Only 78% of Houston children have the proper immunizations.
