Critical Care Providers Should Know
The state of Colorado consistently is one of the top five states when it comes to a number of health categories. For example, Colorado is the best state in terms of the number of people having strokes and the number of people who are obese. Colorado also excels in the number of people that have diabetes, the number of people who are active, and the amount of people who have high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
If there is one issue that Colorado needs to be aware of, it's the number of people who are uninsured or underinsured. 89.7% of children in Colorado are up to date on their vaccines, compared to a national average of 90.25%; that may not seem like a significant difference, but Colorado currently ranks 32nd out of 50 in terms of immunizations.

On January 24, 2012, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment released its statement of "winnable battles". In this report, Colorado identified ten areas in which it recognizes it can improve public health. These areas include clean air and water, stopping the spread of infectious disease, tobacco, food, obesity, and unintended pregnancy. The goal of the statement is to educate the public and the clinical staff as to how best to prevent and/or cure these various issues.
The state of Colorado intends to present these "winnable battles" all over the state, in the hopes that it will increase the general awareness. The physicians are going to work together with state legislatures in order to help come up with solutions to these growing problems.
About Colorado
Colorado is the 38th state, having received statehood the same year as the USA's centennial, 1876. The capitol city of Denver is nicknamed "The Mile High City", with a population of more than 600,000.
Denver offers great shopping opportunities, particularly in downtown's beautiful Cherry Creek district. You'll find lots of great restaurants and entertainment options in Denver, too. Denver residents love living in the shadow of the Colorado Rocky Mountain range.
Among Colorado's other cities are Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Boulder, Englewood, Golden, Pueblo, Durango, Canon City, Ft. Collins and Aspen, just to name a few.
Known for its natural beauty, clean air, great parks, camping and excellent skiing, Colorado is a state that is always brimming over with plenty of amazing outdoor activities. Pike's Peak beckons the adventurous mountain climber, but you may prefer to take a scenic train ride up to enjoy its majestic views.
Casa Bonita in Lakewood offers dining unlike that you'll find anywhere else. You may choose to eat inside of a mine, or have a front row seat to observe indoor cliff divers - all while eating delicious fajitas or other fine fare and being serenaded by a band of mariachis - ole'!
When it comes to higher education, Colorado is home to the University of Colorado at Boulder, the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Sturm College of Law and Colorado State University in Ft. Collins.
Home to the Denver Broncos football team, football hall of famer quarterback John Elway still has a huge presence in Denver. He owns two steakhouse restaurants, both named Elway's, and was recently appointed executive vice president of football operations for the Broncos.
Plenty of Coloradoans have made names for themselves in the entertainment industry, including Tim Allen, Amy Adams, the co-creators of South Park, Trey Parker & Matt Stone, among others.
Many Colorado residents take pride in proactively "living green" and doing everything in their power to preserve the environment. It's a beautiful state with much to see and do.
