About Austin

Austin has been an official city and the capital of Texas since 1839. Since the climate is mild and the winters are far warmer than the more northern states, this city gets a lot of visitors year round. The attractions in this city tend to entice not only year round visitors, but the wildly diverse local population as well.

For leisure and relaxation, people flock to the beautiful lakes along the Colorado River. While some only allow canoeing, most are ideal for swimming, boating, and canoeing. Lake Austin is one of the most popular lake destinations.

There are also many family oriented destinations, such as Austin's Park. This amusement arena offers both indoor and outdoor fun for locals looking for fun day trips or travelers looking for a safe place for children of all ages to play. Some of the options include bumper boats, rock climbing, and laser tag. There is also a large buffet always piled with delicious food.

Yet, many visitors want to get outdoors to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Austin. The most popular options include horseback riding, ice skating, figure skating, caverns, bird watching, and cabin rentals along the Highland Lakes.

The Austin Steam Train is a real railway that offers a variety of different themed tours throughout the city and there are many different lunch and dinner cruises on the lakes. There are also quite a few historical and art museums dotting the city.

With such a diverse list of attractions, Austin is a great choice for groups of travelers and families. There is a little something for everyone!
